Synopsis:
The play is introduced by Lewis Carroll himself. He challenges the
audience to use their imaginations as he spins a wonderfully unbelievable
story. We meet Alice and her older sister, Sissy, as they are tending to
Alice’s studies. But Alice is so bored, she soon falls fast asleep
and begins dreaming about a White Rabbit. She follows the rabbit into its
hole and thus begins Alice’s adventures in Wonderland. After
finding the White Rabbit, Alice discovers the Wonderland is a very silly
place. There are no rules and no logic-- and this at first pleases Alice.
Alice soon meets a stuffy, pretentious Caterpillar and a very silly
doorman. Since they are adults, Alice expects them to behave in a
respectable manner– but they don’t. Alice moves on and stumbles onto a
Tea Party, but she soon discovers that it’s a MAD tea party that she
would rather not attend. Finally, she is swept into a courtroom
where a lowly Knave (a child from the audience!) is being tried for
stealing a tart from the Queen of Hearts. The silly shenanigans that go on
in this trial confirms to Alice that rules and logic are very important
things to have in the real world. She saves the Knave, puts the Queen in
her place, and returns to the real world just in time for her sister to
finish her lesson.
